A wonderful collection of hand-made soaps created from all-natural products.
Canterbury Naturals is located in beautiful Northern Chester County, Pennsylvania. My name is Sue McCafferty and I began making soap in 1999, after searching for an alternative to commercially made soap. My passion is researching to find alternative treatments for skin problems. All the soaps are tested on family and friends before being sold. The oils and butters I use are in the unrefined state to obtain as much of the beneficial properties as possible. My soap contains babassu oil, olive oil, shea butter, coconut oil, palm kernel oil, palm oil and cocoa butter. The soap with color is a result of the fragrance oil, essential oil or natural additives, not dyes.
The method I use to make soap is cold process (CP). This basically means that after I heat my oils and butters no external heat is used. The soap takes 3-4 weeks to cure. To make soap there is an alkali (sodium hydroxide) and fatty acids (oils). Once they are combined saponification (soapmaking) occurs. After the soap has cured it has 25% glycerin remaining which is a humectant and necessary for retention of moisture to the skin.
